Paul Melcher grew up in Grand Rapids, Michigan and holds a Bachelor of Music degree from St. Olaf College in Piano Performance as well as an Master of Music degree from Central Michigan University in Piano Performance. With the St. Olaf Choir, he performed all over the United States and in Norway and has played in prestigious halls such as DeVos Hall, Heinz Hall, Severance Hall and Carnegie Hall.

Paul Melcher grew up in Grand Rapids, Michigan and holds a Bachelor of Music degree from St. Olaf College in Piano Performance as well as an Master of Music degree from Central Michigan University in Piano Performance. Paul Melcher plays his own original composition inspired by works of Schumann, Liszt and John Williams. “Dante’s Storm” was written to musically depict the various scenes recorded by Dante Alighieri in his poem “The Divine Comedy.”

Paul is currently the Director of Music at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church where he is the Church Organist, Pianist, Cantor and Choir Director. He is also the co-founder of the RED School of Music in Marysville, Ohio

More about Paul…

In 2003, Paul was the First Place Winner of the Grand Rapids Youth Symphony Piano Concerto Competition and performed Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3 in DeVos Hall. In 2005, Paul was awarded first prize for the Schubert Club Competition of Minnesota. In 2007 and 2009 Paul was the concerto competition winner both at St. Olaf College and Central Michigan University playing Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 in C Minor and Liszt’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in E-flat Major. Under the direction of Anton Armstrong, Paul’s playing was featured in the St. Olaf Choir production of “A Christmas in Norway” aired on PBS from 2005 through Christmas 2013.

In addition to his keyboard studies, Paul has experience in opera and has sung roles such as Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni, Rodolfo in La Boheme and Rinucchio in Gianni Schicchi with the opera program at Central Michigan University. Since 2012, Melcher served for the Cabaret Series/Opera on the Edge of Opera Columbus and has performed as the pianist for their “Opera on the Edge” production of La Boheme, as a tenor soloist in the 2014 production of Pagliacci and will perform this fall as pianist for La Traviata.

Paul is the visionary for the yearlong concert series called “Music on the Hill.” Between July, 2013 and May, 2018 Music on the Hill hosted  concerts which included professional as well as pre-professional musicians. Paul has brought in talent from major Conservatories such as Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, Cleveland Institute, New England Conservatory, Jacobs School of Music, Belgrade Conservatory, Oparto Conservatory of Music, Tanglewood Music Center, Notre Dame and Ohio State University.  

Paul lives in Marysville, Ohio with his wife, Chelsea and their son, Michael.
